Find Out What You Must Know About Buying A Scooter

Having a scooter is not only great fun, but offers a great deal of practicality in modern day life. More than this, they are both environmentally friendly and cost effective too, for much the same reason; using less gasoline as they do. With such a wide choice to choose from however, it is not always easy to get the best one.

Ahead of anything else, it is necessary to first decide a budget of course. At the very upper end of the scale, it is perfectly possible to spend in excess of 10,000 dollars on a scooter.

However, if nothing more than a run around is required, it is perfectly possible to get a good quality new scooter from less than two thousand dollars. And of course, a simple search through popular online auction sites can get a decent sized reduction on any price and model.

When deciding your budget however, it is important to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in your approach, in order that your needs can be well met. Whether this means slightly upping the amount you wish to spend, or lowering what you expect to achieve is of course up to you.

This is most likely to be driven by how you intend on using the scooter. For heavy use, perhaps as the main mode of transport, something with a larger engine and greater comfort should be sought. However, if you are using just to scoot to the shops or to work and back in a busy metropolis, you can afford to aim slightly lower perhaps.

When looking at what size engine to buy, ensure you have thoroughly checked local laws to ensure your choice will be street legal for where you intend to drive it. The smallest sized engine, at 50cc will be limited to about 45 miles an hour. A standard size for city driving is about 150cc to 200cc, where speeds of 65 miles can be reached.

Certain other things to look out for, that could make your life easier, are automatic transmissions and electronic starters; particularly useful for first time riders of course.

Many are put off by the lack of functionality of a scooter due to their size; however, many have under seat storage for those quick dashes to the grocery store. It is also possible to have side bags fitted which can look stylish depending on the scooter chosen.

Having made the vital and necessary details, it is time to get to the important stuff; color, style, build, etc! Whilst manufacturers like Yamaha and Honda produce excellent top end models; the retro designs from the likes of Lambretta and Vespa could well draw you.

Having made your choice, you are sure to have hours of fun and wonder why you hadn't got a scooter earlier. However, do be extra careful on the road and wear the right clothing. And if at all possible; seek shelter when the wind and rain hits; it just isn't as much fun!

Parking in the city is never an easy chore. It can even be a problem when you are running out to the grocery store. Make a life a little easier on yourself and do these tasks with a 50cc scooter. What Scooter Size Fits You Best?

It's important to remember where you will be riding it and what kind of use it will get when you are looking for a scooter that fits you best. Rather than just go for the cheapest scooter and disregard other factors, it' s always better to consider first what type of scooter will fits best with how you plan to use it and where you will be riding it.

The most common way to advertise the size of a scooter is by stating the engine displacement. This is the biggest factor in determining how the scooter will perform. Most scooters are 150cc, which means their engine has a displacement of 150 cubic centimeters. These scooters will usually get up to about 55 mph quite easily. 50cc scooters have one third the displacement, and will normally get up to just 35 mph most of the time.

If you plan on riding only on small residential streets, then most likely any smaller scooter would fit you just fine. Either a 50cc or a 150cc scooter would give you enough power to go where you want to go. The speed limit on small streets is usually just 25 mph, and so you can keep in that range even with a smaller 50cc scooter.

You should definitely consider getting a scooter that has more power and can carry you significantly faster than the smaller 50cc scooters if you plan on riding on larger streets where the speed limit is over 25 mph, . It would be best for you to go for anything that goes at least 45 mph so you can keep up with traffic. That generally means a 125cc or a 150cc scooter. A 150cc is your best bet because 125cc scooters are not very common.

Many people who choose to go with a 50cc scooter so that they can commute to work or school on busier streets are quickly disappointed when they realize that their new scooter will not keep up with traffic. If your scooter is not at least 125cc, you cannot even legally ride it on any street that has a speed limit of over 25mph in most states. That greatly decreases the functionality of your scooter and severely limits you in where you can ride.

If you are considering a 50cc scooter because you think that a 150cc scooter might be too dangerous because it will be too fast for you, you might want to keep in mind that the biggest reason why scooter riders get in accidents is that they cannot keep up with traffic or speed up to get out of the way of other vehicles. A smaller scooter is the biggest victim in such incidences, because larger scooters can get out of the way. You can of course go faster if the need arises on a larger scooter, but you most definitely do not have to always ride fast.

Most people who prefer a scooter that stays as slower speeds are also basing their mindset off of a past experience they had when they practiced riding a larger scooter. They possibly felt that it was really hard to control or had too much power for them. Many people feel the same way at first, but after only a couple hours of riding, they realize that it is not that difficult and can can be controlled just as easily as a smaller scooter.

If you are unsure about which scooter to go with still, just find a person that has either a 50cc or a 150cc scooter and try riding it around a little bit. Just remember that 90% of all people prefer a 150cc scooter, so even if you have not ridden one before, you can know that you probably fall in that category and will be quite happy with your scooter if you opt for a larger engine.

Some of the countries in the EU will allow you to operate these scooters without a permit or license, but if you live in either France or Italy, you are going to be required to carry the minimum of a car drivers license to operate any "vehicle" up to 125cc. Even if your region requires you to register your 50cc gas scooter, the fees will not be that expensive as they are not legally classified as motorcycles. This definition applies to vehicles above the 50 cc engine capacity.

In some localities they have come up with an in between classification, which states that anything between 50cc and 150cc are to be considered motorized bikes. Other world localities have just went ahead and classified anything above a 50cc engine as a motorcycle. Because each manufacturer generally keeps the lines of their designs the same, the 50cc models have a lot of the same features hat larger models possess. Because of this, you will see both electric and kick start models, as well as models that have sporty exhaust and brakes, as well as convenient under seat storage.

Before the purchase of such a small motorcycle, you should learn something about the certification for registration, the warranty, the fuel consumption and the technical limitations of the model. If you are thinking of a larger model these tips hold true for them as well.

50cc Motor Mopeds Can Get You Around The City Rather Well

The engine size of the 50cc gas scooter puts it in the classification between the mopeds class and the motor vehicle class. Whether or not you are going to need a drivers license to operate one is going to vary from location to location as many countries and regions of the world classify them differently. If for instance, you live in the EU, but not in France or Italy, you are allowed to operate one without a driving license, but in those two countries you must have a minimum of a car license to operate anything up to 125cc. None of the rules governing the use of these modes of transportation have truly been defined, so there is not a lot of clarity on what you really need.

The restrictions and licensing fees are a lot smaller for 50cc scooters, and they are not legally considered motorcycles. This definition applies to vehicles above the 50 cc engine capacity.

Some areas of the world have addressed this by labeling anything between 50cc and 150cc as a motorized bike. Other world localities have just went ahead and classified anything above a 50cc engine as a motorcycle. Because of this, you must check with the rules of your governing body before you decide on purchasing a 50cc motor scooter.

As for technical features 50cc scooters are among the smallest and best used designs because of the low costs, the reduced fuel consumption and the possibility to be used by teenagers and adults alike. Sleek and sporty at the same time, such a vehicle is considered a trendy alternative to public transportation.

These scooters allow you to zip all around town without having to worry about all of the problems of heavy traffic which are associated with larger vehicles. Even if they have a small cylinder capacity, 50cc scooters have four stroke engines with a high performance for various mobility and transportation purposes.

Most of the smaller 50cc models possess some of the same qualities of larger versions as the manufacturers mast generally keep the same styling for all of their scooters. Thus, there is an electric start mode and a kick start one, the brakes and exhaust come in a sports variants and they all have some form of storage space under the seat.

Before you run off and purchase one of these scooters, make sure that you understand all of the regulation surrounding them including licensing and registration requirements in your locality, warranty information, limitations, and the fuel requirements. This holds true for larger versions as well.

Roketa MC54 250B Scooter

Review Date: October 20, 2009
Reviewer: Harold D. Williams,
I bought this scooter about 13 months ago. I have only a little over 1300 miles on it. I have changed the oil 2 times and the gear lube 1 time. Other than being a little slow to start when cold, and a slight vibration at 65mph, I have very few compliants. The tire valve stems have very delicate cores in them, easy to bend and don't take air very well. I plan to replace them both soon with better quality stems and cores.
My wife and I both enjoy cruising out in the North Carolina countryside, cruising the Blue Ridge Pkwy, and running errands on the Roketa. Over all, I would recommend this scooter if you don't want to put a lot of money in one. I may upgrade to a Yamaha 400 or 700 cc, only because of the added power, since we ride double.
